When will Canada finally get oil from the tar sands?
Oil producers are struggling with the issue of how to make money in the midst of a downturn in the global economy.
In the U.S., the Keystone XL pipeline, which is currently undergoing a review by the Obama administration, is expected to become a finalist for approval.
It’s hoped that, as the project moves forward, a decision will be made to allow more Canadian crude to be shipped through the pipeline to the Gulf Coast.
In Canada, meanwhile, President Trudeau has made a push for the country to diversify its oil supply, with new projects like the $1.6 billion Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline to export crude to Asia.
The pipeline has also been criticized for being an expensive way for a country with a low oil price to compete against the world’s major producers.
